Dr. A. Alagarsamy, M.A., M.Phil., B.L.,NET, Ph.D is the Professor and Head, Department of Social Work. His area of interest is HRD, Training, Corporate Social Responsibility, Advocacy, Public Relations and Counseling. He is a resource person to corporate and NGO's. He has about 12 years of teaching experience and also has 10 years of industrial experience. He has received credentials for academic performance from the College,also for social activities from social welfare organization's like National Child Labour Project (NCLP),Lions and Rotract Clubs. He has been highly appreciated by the District Collector, Non Governmental Organizations and Educational Institutions and received awards for leading 2 major projects on child labour, Environmental Issues and Problems in Coimbatore. He is a member in various organizations namely, Advisory Committee Member in Positive People Network Association,Coimbatore, Crisis and Core Committee Member in Centre For Advocacy and Research(CFAR), Executive Member in Mass Cleaning Committee of Resident Awareness Association of Coimbatore(RAAC), Active Member in National Child Labour Project and Executive Member in Indian Red Cross Society,Coimbatore.
Department of Social Work offers a two-year professional and academic discipline that seeks to improve the quality of life and well-being of an individual, group, or community. The course is well designed to impart professional knowledge and skills to the candidates. The students are guided to gain a foresighted vision and mission to interact with social issues and problems strategically.
Apart from the theoretical input, the main component of Social Work includes concurrent field work, block placement, orientation visits, welfare camps, special camp and industrial tours. The Department offers three specializations on Human Resource Management, Community Development and Medical & Psychiatry.
The students undergo intensive field work training in multiple agencies like Government, Industrial Sectors and Non Government Organizations. This makes them fit for placements and prepare them to meet issues and challenges. The Department organizes various academic programmes as well as community awareness programmes for the public. The Department is closely associated with various reputed industrial establishments like International, National and Regional NGO's and most of the students are placed in the above settings. The Department concentrates on main activities which includes SMS (Student Message to Society), CCC (Club on Climate Change), and SCOPE (Student Community Organization Programme).
